The first reading is from a recent CACM. The former President of AAAI argues that we need a balance of hand-coded knowledge and learned knowledge in AI systems. The second is from nature from 2019 and looks in detail at ways that deep learning can be fooled.
Write a 300-400 word (2 or 3 paragraph) response to these readings. Please don't just summarize the readings, but rather mention what you think is most important, things that you have questions about, things you agree or disagree with, topics that you are most interested in learning more about as the semester progresses, and/or perhaps ways that the topics discussed resonate with ideas that you have learned about in other classes. Spend a little bit of time rereading what you have written and cleaning it up.
Have your response available during class on Friday so you can refer to it during our discussion. Your assignment should be submitted through Blackboard (from the Assignment Submission page) and is due by 10pm on Friday. No handwritten copies accepted.
